Washing machine cider

A couple days ago, NPR ran this cool story on All Things Considered about two neighbors in Maine who combined overabundant fall apples and an old washing machine (yes, you read that right) to make cider. I’m not a tinkerer myself, but I appreciate folks who can use simple stuff and some ingenuity to come up with a satisfying solution … kinda like the best cooks.

My favorite quote from the story: “This wouldn’t fall into the category of like a machine or something well designed or engineered…. [Y]ou see it running, and it’s a contraption….”
