Farming for jobs

Photo by Mike DeVries, The Capital Times

A couple weeks ago, I posted here about the economic impact nationwide of locally distributed fruits and veggies. Yesterday The Capital Times posted this story that considers the economic impact of the local food system in and around Madison. Although it remains a very small slice of the economy, interest in local food does seem higher than ever. Whether it can be a job-creator may be beside the point, since the benefits are much more varied, from supporting family farms, to cutting down food miles, to fresher ingredients.
