A friend is moving away from Madison, and before she goes we’re hoping to squeeze in a trip to the Old Sugar Distillery. Neither of us have been to their tasting room yet, but we’ve looking forward to checking it out, having already sampled their wares elsewhere. I’m hoping to post in the near future after we make a stop. In the meantime, for a preview check out this review or this earlier piece from Isthmus, or this feature at madison.com from shortly after the tasting room opened. Cocktails feature the distillery’s handiwork, including honey liqueur (a potent spirit, not overtly sweet as the name seems to imply), rum, whiskey, and ouzo. Many of their products prominently feature local produce, including “premium dark brown beet sugar, grown and processed in the Midwest” along with Wisconsin honey and sorghum and even grapes from just south of Madison.
